Why not crush this Line 3 nonsense, once and for all?

The Minnesota Pollution “Control” Agency just rubber-stamped permitting for the proposed Enbridge Line 3 tar sands sludge pipeline. Here’s one righteously brutal response:

Twelve out of 17 members of a group that advises the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency on environmental justice issues have resigned in protest of the agency’s approval late last week of a key water quality permit for the contentious Line 3 oil pipeline replacement project.

In a letter delivered (November 16) to MPCA Commissioner Laura Bishop, the members of the Environmental Justice Advisory Group wrote that they are submitting their “collective and public resignation” because they “cannot continue to legitimize and provide cover for the MPCA’s war on Black and brown people.”

Some more data points that are apparently not being given appropriate consideration, here:

– You know this has got to be putting a whole hive of murder hornets in Enbridge’s bonnet. Along with that of the entire tar sands industry.

Environmental and Indigenous activists celebrated (November 13) after Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer took action to shut down the decades-old Enbridge Line 5 oil and natural gas pipelines that run under the Straits of Mackinac, narrow waterways that connect Lake Huron and Lake Michigan—two of the Great Lakes.

Citing the threat to the Great Lakes as well as “persistent and incurable violations” by Enbridge, Whitmer and Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Director Dan Eichinger informed the Canadian fossil fuel giant that a 1953 easement allowing it to operate the pipelines is being revoked and terminated…

“Enbridge has routinely refused to take action to protect our Great Lakes and the millions of Americans who depend on them for clean drinking water and good jobs,” the governor said. “They have repeatedly violated the terms of the 1953 easement by ignoring structural problems that put our Great Lakes and our families at risk.”

By suspending crude quotas, Edmonton is hoping to improve investor confidence and boost capital spending from the dismal levels seen over the past five years, ultimately kick-starting oil drilling and job creation in the economically hard-pressed province.
