Be careful what you wish for
While looking for something else on my computer, I ran across this Republican Party of Minnesota fundraising appeal. (This is textbook serendipity.) It’s from Keith Downey when he was the chair of the party and the RPM was housed over a pizza restaurant in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis. It was issued before the 2016 presidential election.

Fundraising appeal by the Republican Party of Minnesota
The first and last paragraphs of the appeal are interesting.
“The consequences of the nuclear deal with Iran cannot be overstated. A Republican in the White House is the only chance we have of stopping the agreement from becoming a permanent national security risk.”
“The next President could revoke this dangerous agreement. History will remember us for this moment. [no shit, Ed.] There is no time to waste – we must do our part now to safeguard our country’s future and take back the White House in 2016.”
Excuse me a moment. Ahahahahahahahaha. Sorry. This was the state of Republican thinking at the time, though.
Well, of course, Donald Trump did mount the White House, and he did tear up the the JCPOA in 2018. Iran was by all accounts abiding by the agreement. When it was no longer bound by the agreement, it began enriching uranium again.
To say that the situation has gone south since Trump tore up the agreement would be a massive understatement. We’ve taught Iran in recent weeks that it doesn’t need a nuclear weapon; it possesses a weapon called ‘geography.’
The world — and our real adversaries — have watched with amusement while Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth flail and bluster like the fools they are.
Thanks for your feedback. If we like what you have to say, it may appear in a future post of reader reactions.
